LALLA

Lalla was a mystic and poet during the 14th century in Kashmir. She took to the life of a wandering pilgrim, traveling around the country teaching and experienced a high level of self-realization. During her life, Lalla composed many hundreds of songs and poems which spoke primarily of her love for her beloved Shiva, the masculine manifestation of universal consciousness, that in turn gives shape to Shakti, the feminine universe of matter and energy. Her poems or Vakyas formed an important part of Kashmiri language and culture and are still very much revered today.
